Today I had the opportunity to photograph the otter couple at a close distance. So playful and such lovely animals to observe! Is this the return of the otter in the Black River Valley?
The number of otters in Sweden today is estimated at between 1 500 and 2 000. The otter is rising again after a sharp decline, probably due to environmental toxins. Today, traffic is a big problem, many otters killed by traffic each year. Drowning in fishing gear is also common. The otter is mainly active at night, but may also be in motion during the day in undisturbed areas. In Sweden is the otter red-listed as vulnerable and totally protected since 1969. We wish the otter a very warm welcome!
